our impact

  • 5,000 BC: The fig leaf makes its debut as the O.G. of underwear.

While we’ve made quite a few improvements to the original design, the humble act of covering oneself with nature’s finest materials is a gentle reminder that the Earth has always provided for us. And we’re at a time where Mother Nature needs to know we have her back.

We dream of a world where sustainability isn’t simply the better option for our kids, it’s the only option. Yes, that’s a mighty big nut to crack, but we’ve seen tides of change in other industries and are encouraged about the potential for small but consistent actions of little companies like ours to level up to big shifts.

“Non-toxic,” “organic” and “sustainable” clothing sounds great, but unfortunately right now in the U.S. there isn’t much regulation to make anyone back up those words with more than positive vibes. How can we expect busy parents to wade through all the greenwashing out there when you’ve got so many other pressing to-do’s on your list and decisions weighing on your mind?

For us it meant taking our responsibility seriously, from the outset. Trying to help other parents tackle the existential overwhelm of it all, one bite-sized piece of knowledge and long-lasting, worry-free pair of undies at a time. Truly, thank you for joining us on this journey.

• no PFAS • no harmful dyes • no mom shaming, ever • no fast fashion • no child labor • no throwaway undies • no heavy metals • no wedgies • no chafing • no greenwashing • JUST NO!

If you’re done with all the “no’s” you’ve come to the right place to say “aw, yeah!”

what ethical production means at fig:

  • 100% GOTS certified cotton

We only use cotton that is Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified, which ensures that our clothes are produced ethically and free from hazardous chemicals at every single step.

By using less water and keeping toxic chemicals out of the production process and our water supply, organic cotton is better for farmers, for our planet, and for our kids. We’ve selected a super soft yet durable cotton, so our clothes will outlast your kid’s accidents and growth spurts. It’s even compostable!

  • 1% for the planet

Fig means business when it comes to building a brighter future. We’ve pledged 1% of every purchase to fight to change the laws that control what can and cannot be used in manufacturing, so we can ensure a life for future generations that’s as free from toxic chemicals as possible.

Through our partnership with 1% For The Planet and Toxic Free Future, Fig is doing its part to ensure a safer planet for our kids and the kids of the people making our clothes.

  • 100% transparency

There can be no sustainability without transparency. To be certain our collections are made in a planet and people-friendly manner, we’ve partnered with Ecovest, a Portuguese manufacturer that is certified for its practices in treating their employees and our products with the highest standards of care, all the way from farm to Fig.

  • supporting independent designers

As a small, women-owned and operated company, Fig seeks to support like-minded artisans and businesses at every opportunity. Our debut collection was designed in New York with a tribe of amazing women and we love collaborating with independent artists. If you’re a small biz looking to team up, we’d love to hear from you!

  • Our packaging partner Noissue is committed to sustainability by making materials that are compostable, recycled/recyclable, and reusable.
